Current Research In Wetlands Monitoring

EPA has awarded several grants to the PDU in order to develop a wetlands monitoring program for NC:

  • The first Wetlands Monitoring Grant dealt with the monitoring of Headwater Wetlands.  Study sites were located in the piedmont (12 sites) and coastal plain (11 sites).  The draft report is available at the Wetlands Monitoring Reports page.
  • A second grant expanded the project to two additional wetland types: Bottomland Hardwood Forest, Small Basin Wetland, and Riverine Swamp Forest.  Sites were located in the piedmont (Granville County; six Bottomland Hardwood Forests and six Small Basin Wetlands) and the coastal plain (Brunswick County; seven Riverine Swamp Forests and six Small Basin Wetlands).
  • The Isolated Wetlands Grant will support research on the value and function of isolated wetlands in North Carolina and South Carolina.
