Every three years the State is required by 15A NCAC 02L .0202(f) to review its groundwater water quality standards and interim maximum allowable concentrations to determine if changes are needed and, if necessary, to make those changes. This review process is referred to as the "Triennial Review." In order to provide consistency and to make the review process more transparent, the Division of Water Quality developed a standard operating procedure that lays out the steps to be followed and the hierarchy of references to be used to develop or review groundwater standards as required by 2L regulations.
