Nutrient Strategies

North Carolina currently has four large-scale, long-term watershed restoration projects underway in the form of comprehensive nutrient reduction strategies that cover both point and nonpoint sources.  Each restoration strategy is unique in that it has distinct nutrient reduction goals aimed at achieving nutrient related water quality standards in the targeted waterbody, and is driven by a watershed-specific set of rules designed to achieve those goals.
