Name: Proposed Reclassification of Southwest Creek

WHAT:The Division of Water Quality, on behalf of the Environmental Management Commission, wishes to receive comment on the proposed reclassification of a portion of Southwest Creek in the White Oak River basin in Onslow County from Class C to Class SC. Class C and Class SC (for freshwater and saltwater respectively) are the most common classifications in the state and are protective for secondary recreation, fishing, wildlife and aquatic life propagation and survival. Class C also protects for agriculture. WHERE:The proposed reclassification addresses the portion of the Southwest Creek main stem from approximately 0.5 mile upstream of Mill Run to New River - a distance of approximately 2 miles. Camp Lejeune land is adjacent to the proposed waters.

Notices include a summary of the proposed action, and written comments may be submitted before the end of the comment period. Comments will be included in the recommendation to the DWR director or to the Environmental Management Commission for a final decision.

Meetings are opportunities to learn more about a division action or proposal and discuss it with staff and others who are interested.

Hearings are held to gather oral and written comments from the public on a proposed action. Notices of public hearings are published at least 30 days before the hearing occurs. Comments gathered at the hearing or sent to DWR through the mail or email are included in the hearing record presented to the Environmental Management Commission or the division director.
