Since February 1996, the Lower Cape Fear River Program has monitored the lower Cape Fear watershed from Lock and Dam One to Southport. Thirty-three stations are currently monitored monthly for multiple parameters including dissolved oxygen, fecal coliform, and nutrients. Details on the stations and the parameters monitored can be found in the Memorandum of Agreement and the station list.
Members of the LCFRP have provided financial support to researchers at UNC-Wilmington for benthic and fish monitoring and sampling of additional water quality parameters. Currently the members are working with DWQ on the development of a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the Cape Fear Estuary.
