DWQ Director Chuck Wakild has worked for the Department of Environment and Natural Resources for a total of 21 years in a variety of leadership positions. He served as the deputy director of the air, water and groundwater programs; as regional supervisor and as chief of the water quality section. Following a stint in the private sector, Wakild returned to the division in 2006 as the Raleigh Regional Office Surface Water Protection Supervisor. In 2007, he became the division's Deputy Director. He was named DWQ Director on Jan. 1, 2012.
Wakild, a native of Michigan, earned an MBA from UNC-Wilmington, a masters degree in environmental engineering from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Public Health and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Michigan State University.
