What do I do if I need a DWQ Vehicle? There are state vehicles dedicated to DWQ staff travel purposes. If no DWQ vehicles are available, you may reserve a state vehicle from Motor Pool (see last section below) or choose to drive your own car (restrictions on reimbursement for travel, etc. may apply). Sign-out, fueling, and parking instructions vary according to work location, but here are instructions to get you started. Happy motoring, and stay safe! Central Offices In Raleigh:Archdale Building EmployeesUnfortunately, we've lost our downtown parking spaces for the DWQ vehicles. Our cars are now parked at the Parkview Building at 2321 Crabtree Boulevard; however, you will go to the 12th floor of Archdale to sign them out and get keys. You must fill out the vehicle log sheet (it looks like this one). Be sure to record the purpose of the trip and your signature (very important!). Please contact Linda West with any questions. Parkview Building EmployeesThere are vehicles available for Parkview staff. Please check with administrative staff there for information about signing out DWQ vehicles (or follow instructions above to sign out DWQ cars from Archdale). 2728 Capital Boulevard EmployeesThere are vehicles available for DWQ staff at this building. Environmental Sciences and Laboratories at 4405 Reedy Creek RoadThere are vehicles available for ESS and Laboratory staff. Please check with administrative staff there for information about signing out DWQ vehicles. Regional Offices:Please check with your regional office administration staff for locations and instructions on using DWQ vehicles at your office. Fueling a State VehicleYou can fuel a state vehicle at Motor Fleet (1915 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh) or at NC DOT refueling stations across the state using the gas key assigned to that vehicle. See these helpful instructions on fueling a state vehicle . Locations of NC DOT fuel pump in each county are available here. (Please note some maps/locations may be out-of-date. For example, the Peace Street station in Raleigh is no longer available.) If you can't get to an NC DOT pump, you can also fuel the vehicle at most commercial stations using a state credit card. For information about gas credit cards, speak with your supervisor. When should I fill up?Policies and procedures vary by work location. Some offices observe the "half-tank rule" (I.e., always fuel up if the tank is half empty or less when you return). Others expect employees will always fill up the tank before leaving the vehicle for the next driver. Please observe guidelines specific to your work location. What do I do if I'm in a accident?Be sure to follow these basics steps:
If you are in a DWQ vehicle, there should be a motor vehicle Accident Reporting Kit inside. This kit contains instructions, contact information, and insurance forms. If you are in a state vehicle from Motor Pool, please refer to the Motor Fleet Management's Regulations Book. Here are the instructions as of March 2009:
What if a DWQ vehicle is not available when I need it?
You can reserve a vehicle from the State Motor Fleet. Please see this link for instructions and forms. You may also drive your personal vehicle; however, refer to the travel section of the onboarding introduction page and current policies regarding reimbursement approvals for more information.
