Welcome to the North Carolina UST Section Operator Training Registration website.
You should only register for an Operator Training course if a North Carolina UST owner designated you as the Primary Operator for a North Carolina UST facility. The Primary Operator should be an employee of the UST owner or operator, not a third-party contractor or testing company.
For more information about the Primary Operator designation, or NC DENR’s operator training program, please visit the operator training website.
Currently there are two options for obtaining Operator Training. Option 1 is through Tank School provided by NC DENR staff where you will receive hands-on training on the state and federal UST compliance requirements. Option 2 is on-line through a third-party vendor where training is provided only to meet federal UST compliance requirements
How to register for Tank School
Each class covers compliance information for all regulated UST equipment regardless of installation date. This means that UST systems installed either before or after the 11/1/2007 UST rule change may register for any class. To see a schedule and register for Tank School at a location and date of your choice, click the "Register Now" button.
As an alternative to attending one of the above Operator Training classes provided by NC DENR, you can go to one of the following companies that offer on-line Operator Training courses approved by North Carolina. The on-line training meets the minimum federal operator training requirements but does not provide training on any of the UST compliance requirements that are specific to North Carolina. The on-line courses typically have a registration fee that you will have to pay prior to taking the class.
Whichever company you choose, you MUST include your facility ID #, which can be found on your permit and has the following format: ##-#-00000#####.
