NC Scrap Tire Market Development Grants Watch this webpage for future scrap tire market development grant round information. NCDENR- Waste Management offers grants to North Carolina businesses for recycling and reuse of processed scrap tires. Grant proposals are welcomed and continually accepted throughout the year. The purpose of this grant program is to reduce the flow of scrap tires to disposal facilities and encourage the sustainable recovery of materials from North Carolina's waste stream. To achieve that purpose, the Division of Waste Management seeks viable, well-planned and effective proposals from recycling businesses in North Carolina wanting to start up or expand recycling and reuse efforts of processed scrap tires. Examples of such uses are tire-derived fuel, crumb rubber, carbon black, or other components of tires for use in products such as fuel, tires, mats, auto parts, gaskets, flooring material, or other applications of processed tire materials. Projects involving the collection or end use of processed scrap tires in the solid waste stream are eligible for funding. Generally, the grant money is intended to fund sustainable investments in equipment and buildings necessary for starting or increasing the capacity of a recycling business to divert more materials from disposal and into economic use. Grant money cannot be used to cover cost of processing scrap tires. For more information concerning these grants contact Ellen Lorscheider at (919)707-8245 or email her at Ellen.Lorscheider@ncdenr.gov.
