Ag Task Force Forms

At the September 8, 1976 meeting of the Soil & Water Conservation Commission, members approved a resolution that formed a voluntary task force.  For a list of current committee members, please check HERE.

Purpose & Function

The purpose of the task force was to provide input into agricultural nonpoint source pollution control under the federally funded 208 Program for controlling nonpoint source pollution in North Carolina. The task force later became known as the ATF. The ATF is a voluntary task force and does not receive compensation for its services as technical and administrative advisors to the Soil & Water Conservation Commission.

In 1982, by letter to Charles Jeter, Regional Administrator-Environmental Protection Agency, Governor James B. Hunt, Jr. designated the Soil and Water Conservation Program as North Carolina's official management agency for the Agricultural Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program to meet the requirements of Section 208(C) of the Clean Water Act of 1977. Also, in the letter Governor Hunt stated "I feel confident that the Division of Soil and Water Conservation, with the guidance of the Soil and Water Conservation Commission and the assistance of the Agricultural Task Force, will provide an effective means for implementing the agricultural component of the Nonpoint Source Pollution Control Program."

Currently, the ATF is intact and remains as a voluntary, working group that advises and makes recommendations to the commission relative to matters concerning agricultural nonpoint source pollution.
