The North Carolina Natural Heritage Program (NHP) is part of the Division of Land and Water Stewardship within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. NHP has developed the state's most comprehensive database of natural resource information by combining on-the-ground surveys with advanced GPS and GIS technology.

Government, industry, the military, and conservation groups all trust NHP data to make important economic development, infrastructure investment, and land conservation decisions.

Partnering with NHP can help ease your permitting process, maximize limited resources, and improve your project's speed.

NHP biologists are recognized for their decades of field experience and commitment to complete and accurate data, and our client-focused analysts respond to hundreds of large-scale and site-specific information requests annually.

We are committed to providing timely, creative, highly-quality solutions to a wide variety of environmental and development planning needs. NHP is a leader in the environmental field. Our data systems are linked with powerful mapping tools - now accessible online 24/7.

IMPORTANT NEWS

Within the next few weeks, the Natural Heritage Program will implement fees to defray costs associated with online access to natural heritage data, environmental review services, and field surveys, as authorized by §113A-164.12. Fees collected will allow NCNHP to continue to provide these services and operate the Natural Heritage Data Explorer (NHDE). We will post more information to our website as soon as the fees are approved. If you have immediate questions, please contact Misty Buchanan at 919-707-8107 or misty.buchanan@ncdenr.gov.
