Natural Heritage Program Activities
Natural Heritage Program activities fall into two major categories. Within each category are a number of specific activities that support the mission of the Natural Heritage Program.
The Natural Heritage Program Conservation unit works with landowners, local, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporations to conserve the significant natural areas of the state, through short and long-term agreements, conservation planning and land management assistance.
The N.C. Natural Heritage Program Inventory unit conducts biological surveys to identify the most significant natural areas of our state, and shares the resulting information with citizens, corporations, agencies and non-profit organizations engaged in conservation and development. More than 8,000 data requests from corporations, agencies and citizens are answered annually.
