Social and Economic Data
The Division has been collecting social and economic data on North Carolina’s fisheries since 1999. Commercial fishermen are surveyed every year in a different area of the coast, with the goal of revisiting each area every five years. Reports from these surveys are available below. The implementation of the Coastal Recreational Fishing License now allows similar surveys to be conducted with recreational fishermen. Information from these surveys is included in the socioeconomics section of every Fishery Management Plan, as required by the Fisheries Reform Act.
