PROCLAMATION

RE: CRAB TRAWLING AND TAKING SHRIMP WITH NETS


Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces the following area will open to shrimpand crab trawls and taking shrimp with seines and cast nets effective at 8:00 A.M., Friday, October 31, 2014.

I. AREA DESCRIPTION

BRUNSWICK COUNTY

Intracoastal Waterway - main channel only from the Sunset Beach High Rise Bridge to the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

II. GENERAL INFORMATION:

A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52 and N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Rules 15A NCAC 03H .0103, 03L .0101 and .0202.

B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Rule 15A NCAC 03H .0103.

C. The intent of this proclamation is to take actions to manage the harvest of shrimp according to the N.C. Shrimp Fishery Management Plan.

D. It is unlawful to take or possess shrimp from areas closed to the taking of shrimp except two quarts of shrimp per person per day may be taken while fishing in a closed area with a cast net in accordance with 15A NCAC 03L .0105.

E. Taking shrimp with pots is not governed by this proclamation. Shrimp pots may be used to take shrimp in accordance with N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Rule 15A NCAC 03J .0301.

G. N.C. Marine Fisheries Commission Rules 15A NCAC 03L .0102 and .0103 place further restrictions on gear and time for the taking of shrimp with nets.

H. This proclamation supersedes a portion of SH-4-2014, dated August 8, 2014. It opens the area from the westernmost Sunset Beach High Rise Bridge to the NC-SC border to shrimp and crab trawls, seines and cast nets.
