RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY
Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at NOON, Monday, August 8, 2011, the following area is declared a RESEARCH SANCTUARY and IS CLOSED to all fishing equipment:
I. AREA DESCRIPTION:
Jockeys Ridge State Park Community-Based Living Shoreline Restoration
An area approximately 0.62 acre located on the shoreline along the northern end of Jockeys Ridge State Park. The site is delineated as an area marked by posts and research sanctuary signs. The posts and signs are located at the following coordinates.
1. 35° 57.4660’ N - 75° 38.2900’ W
2. 35° 57.4640’ N - 75° 38.2920’ W
3. 35° 57.5700’ N - 75° 38.3730’ W
4. 35° 57.5710’ N - 75° 38.3860’ W
II. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 03H .0103 and 3I .0109.
B. It is unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03H .0103.
C. Stakes and signs posted by the applicant will mark the area closed to fish and shellfish harvest.
D. N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03I .0109, specifies that this Research Sanctuary is in effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year.
E. This action is being taken to allow research to be conducted on sill oyster growth studies by Jockeys Ridge State Park, the Coastal Federation, The Nature Conservancy and the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries.
