PROCLAMATION

RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY


Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 8:00 A.M., Friday, June 17, 2011, the following areas are declared RESEARCH SANCTUARIES and ARE CLOSED to all fishing equipment:

I. AREA DESCRIPTIONS

CARTERET COUNTY


Back Sound, Middle Marsh
Twenty-four sites consisting of approximately 0.045 acres each in and around the southwest end of Middle Marsh shown on the attached map and delineated as described below.

An area within 25 feet of a stake located at each of the coordinates listed below:

II. GENERAL INFORMATION:

A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 03H .0103 and 03I .0109.

B. It is unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority per 15A NCAC 03H .0103.
 
C. Stakes and signs posted by the applicant will mark the area closed to fish and shellfish harvest.
 
D. N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03I .0109, specifies that Research Sanctuaries may be in effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year.

E. This action is being taken to allow the UNC Institute of Marine Sciences (IMS) to conduct research for oyster restoration.
