PROCLAMATION

RE: CRAB, EEL, FISH AND SHRIMP POTS

Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 7:00 A.M., Friday, October 14, 2011, the following will apply to crab, eel, fish, and shrimp pots:

Pots MAY NOT BE SET in the following area from 7:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. on Friday, October 14, 2011.

I. AREA
Nelson Bay–Carteret County
In an area bound by a line beginning at a point 34° 50.2920’N – 76° 23.4920’W approximately one-half mile southwest of Marker “28”; running southwesterly to a point 34° 49.9640’N – 76° 24.2170’W; running northerly to a point 34° 51.2120’N – 76° 24.2780’W; running northeasterly to a point 34° 51.4550’N – 76° 23.7570’W; running southeasterly to a point 34° 51.2400’N – 76° 23.3920’W; then running southerly to the point of beginning (see map).

II. GENERAL INFORMATION:

A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52 and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 03H.0103 and 03J.0301.

B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03H.0103.

C. The intent of this proclamation is to allow long haul seining to occur in an area free of crab pots. The proclamation will be used to avert user conflict between April 1 and November 1 of each year.

D. Hatched area on the attached map indicates the area  designated for long haul operations. Pots must be removed from this area during the times indicated above.
