PROCLAMATION

RE: SHELLFISH POLLUTED AREA

Stephen W. Murphey, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, upon the recommendation of Betsey Tilson, M.D., M.P.H., State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, hereby announces that the following shellfish area temporary closures will take effect immediately:
 
It is unlawful for any person to take or attempt to take any oysters, clams or mussels or possess, sell or offer for sale any oysters, clams or mussels taken from the following polluted areas:

CARTERET / PAMLICO / BEAUFORT / HYDE / DARE COUNTIES

Thorofare Bay - All those waters in Thorofare Bay
west of a line beginning at Lookout Point, running across Thorofare Bay to Hall Point near Atlantic.

Rumley Bay - All those waters in Rumley Bay upstream of a line running from Long Point to Lookout Point.

Cedar Island Bay - All those waters in Cedar Island Bay bounded in the north and east be a line beginning at a point 34° 59.1474' N - 76° 16.3156' W on Hog Island, running southeasterly to a point 34° 58.9645' N - 76° 16.1410' W; thence following the shoreline to Hog Island Point; thence running southwesterly to Long Point, to include Cedar Island Bay and Lewis Creek.

Bay River – All those waters in Bay River
bordered on the north by a line running across the Intracoastal Waterway from a point 35° 13.2876' N - 76° 35.5883' W to a point 35° 13.2846' N - 76° 35.4993' W; and bordered on the east by a line running from Bay Point to Maw Point.

Jones Bay - All those waters in Jones Bay
bordered on the west by a line running across the Intracoastal Waterway from a point 35° 13.2876' N -76° 35.5883' W to a point 35° 13.2846' N -76° 35.4993' W; and bordered on the east by a line running from Sow Island Point to Bay Point.

All those waters in Oyster Creek, James Creek, Middle Prong, and Clark Creek bordered on the north by a line beginning at Beard Island Point, running northwesterly to a point on the eastern tip of Cedar Island at 35° 19.4905' N - 76° 32.2801' W; thence running westerly to the tip of Pine Hammock; and bordered on the southeast by a line across Mouse Harbor Ditch from a point 35° 17.8461' N - 76° 30.1404' W to a point 35° 17.8219' N - 76° 30.1512' W.

Spencer and Germantown Bay - All those waters in Spencer and Germantown Bay upstream of a line beginning at a point 35° 23.3434' N - 76° 26.2727' W on the eastern shore of Striking Bay, running southwesterly to Roos Point.

Rose Bay - All those waters in Rose Bay upstream of a line beginning at a point 35° 23.0917' N - 76° 23.0814' W on Judith Marsh, running westerly to a point 35° 23.3434' N - 76° 26.2727' W on the eastern shore of Striking Bay.

All those waters in Croatan and Roanoke Sounds north of a line beginning at Old Point near Stumpy Point Bay, running northeasterly near Channel Markers “41” and “46” to a point 35° 47.6182' N - 75° 32.8006' W at the base of the Oregon Inlet Bridge near the Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station.

All those waters bordered on the west and south by a line beginning at a point 35° 47.6182' N - 75° 32.8006' W at the base of the Oregon Inlet Bridge near the Oregon Inlet Coast Guard Station, running southerly to Beacon “1CC” off Rodanthe; thence running southerly to a point 35° 28.2938' N - 75° 31.2790' W on Gull Island; thence running southwesterly to Brooks Point; thence running southwesterly to the southern tip of DOT Island near Hatteras Inlet at 35° 12.1796' N - 75° 45.6698' W; thence running southwesterly to the northern tip of Ocracoke Island, to include Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, and Hatteras Island.

All those waters along Ocracoke Island bounded by a line beginning at the northern tip of Ocracoke Island, running northeasterly to the southern tip of DOT Island near Hatteras Inlet; thence running southwesterly to Channel Marker “6” off Ocracoke Village; thence running southwesterly to the northern tip of Beacon Island at 35° 05.9383' N - 76° 02.8513' W; thence running southeasterly to the southern tip of Ocracoke Island.
