PROCLAMATION

RE: SHELLFISH POLLUTED AREA

Stephen W. Murphey, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, upon the recommendation of Betsey Tilson, M.D., M.P.H., State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, hereby announces that the following shellfish area temporary closure will take effect immediately:

It is unlawful for any person to take or attempt to take any oysters, clams or mussels or possess, sell or offer for sale any oysters, clams or mussels taken from the following polluted areas:

CARTERET COUNTY

All those waters in Bogue Sound
between the permanent closure line near Fort Macon and a line beginning at a point 34° 42.5733' N - 76° 57.3713' W near Salty Shores Marina on the mainland, running southerly near IWW Marker “29” and the eastern tip of Wood Island to a point on Emerald Isle at 34° 40.7397' N - 76° 56.8821' W, to include Indian Beach, Salter Path, Pine Knoll Shores, Atlantic Beach, and Tar Landing Bay.

The following also remains closed: 

BRUNSWICK / NEW HANOVER / PENDER / ONSLOW / CARTERET COUNTIES

All those waters
bordered on the east by a line beginning at a point 33° 54.2904’ N - 78° 23.6416’ W on the mainland near the Bricklanding Road Public Boat Ramp and IWW Beacon “84”; running southerly to a point 33° 54.1932’ N - 78° 23.6426’ W on Ocean Isle Beach near Ferry Landing Park; and bordered on the west by the South Carolina State Line, to include Tubbs Inlet.

Shallotte River – All those waters in Shallotte River upstream of a line beginning at a point 33° 54.8302’ N - 78° 22.3626’ W near Bowen Point; running southeasterly to a point 33° 54.6139’ N - 78° 21.7667’ W on Long Point.

All those waters between IWW Beacon “1” near Southport and the permanent closure line near the Holden Beach Bridge and IWW Beacon “51A”, to include Lockwoods Folly River and the Lockwoods Folly Inlet area.

All those waters bordered on the north by a line beginning at a point 34°19.5068’N -77°42.9887’ W on the mainland; running southerly near IWW Marker “105” and following the eastern shore of Green Channel to the southern tip of Hutaff Island near Rich Inlet; and bordered on the south by Snows Cut, to include all of Myrtle Grove Sound, Masonboro Sound, Middle Sound, Nixon Channel, and Green Channel.

All those waters from the Intracoastal Waterway to the mainland between the Surf City Bridge and IWW Marker “105” (34° 19.4274’N - 77° 42.9507’ W) near Green Channel.

All those waters bordered on the north by a line beginning at a point 34° 33.0934’ N - 77° 21.6926’ W on the mainland near Hatch Point, running easterly through Marker “76” to Beacon “12”, thence running southerly following the dredged channel to the eastern tip of North Topsail Beach at New River Inlet; and bordered on the south by the Surf City Bridge, to include Chadwick Bay, Alligator Bay, and all of Stump Sound.
