PROCLAMATION
RE: SHELLFISH POLLUTED AREA
Braxton Davis, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, upon the recommendation of Kelly Kimple, M.D., M.P.H., Acting State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, hereby announces that the following shellfish area temporary closures will take effect immediately:
It is unlawful for any person to take or attempt to take any oysters, clams or mussels or possess, sell or offer for sale any oysters, clams or mussels taken from the following polluted areas:
ONSLOW / CARTERET COUNTIES
Bear Creek – All those waters in Bear Creek upstream of a line across the mouth.
Queens Creek - All those waters in Queens Creek upstream of a straight line across the mouth.
White Oak River - All those waters in White Oak River upstream of the Highway 24 Bridge at Swansboro.
Newport River – All those waters in Newport River upstream of the Highway 70 High Rise Bridge and Morehead-Beaufort Causeway, to include all tributaries and Core Creek
North River - All those waters in North River upstream of a straight line beginning at a point at the permanent closure line near Channel Marker #56B to the mainland side of the Harker's Island Bridge at The Straits.
The following also remains closed:
BRUNSWICK / NEW HANOVER / PENDER / ONSLOW COUNTIES
All those waters between IWW Beacon "84" and the South Carolina State Line, to include the Tubbs Inlet area.
Lockwoods Folly River - All those waters north of a line beginning at a point 33° 55.5678’ N - 78° 13.8043’ W on the south shore of Spring Creek near the mouth, running easterly to a point 33° 55.4621’N - 78° 13.1714’ W near the northern tip of Sheep Island, thence running southeasterly to a point 33° 55.2284’N - 78° 12.7791’ W near the northwest point of Horse Island, to include a portion of the Intracoastal Waterway north of Horse and Sheep Islands.
All those waters bordered on the south by Snows Cut and bordered on the northeast by a line beginning at a point on the mainland between Whiskey Creek and Hewlett’s Creek; running easterly through IWW Beacon “134” to a point on Masonboro Island at 34° 9.7856’ N -77° 49.8845’ W; to include Myrtle Grove Sound and a portion of Masonboro Sound.
All those waters, Intracoastal Waterway to the mainland, between IWW Beacon “108”, near Scotts Hill Marina, and IWW Beacon “134”.
All those waters in New River upstream of a line beginning at a point on the north shore at 34° 36.6599’ N -77° 23.8406’ W running southeasterly through Marker “33” to a point on the south shore at 34° 36.0504’ N -77° 23.5911’ W.
