PROCLAMATION

RE: SHELLFISH POLLUTED AREA

Jim Kelley, Acting Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, upon the recommendation of Megan Davies, M.D., Acting State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, hereby announces that the following shellfish area changes and closures will take effect immediately:

No person shall take or attempt to take any oysters, clams or mussels or possess, sell or offer for sale any oysters, clams or mussels taken from the following polluted areas:

The following changes are additional closures to shellfish harvesting and the new closure descriptions are as follows:

BRUNSWICK COUNTY

SHALLOTTE RIVER AREA (A-2) –Map 49

a) Shallotte River and Shallotte Creek – All those waters upstream of a line in Shallotte River beginning at a point 33° 55.6349' N -78° 22.1888' W on the west shore; running southeasterly to a point 33° 55.4499' N -78° 21.6347' W on the east shore, to include the Swash and Shallotte Creek.

b) Intracoastal Waterway area – All those waters bordered on the west by a straight line beginning at a point 33° 54.8682' N -78° 20.1981' W on the north shore of the IWW; running southerly near IWW Beacon “67” to a point 33° 54.7883' N -78° 20.1978' W on the south shore of the IWW; and bordered on the east by a straight line beginning at a point 33° 55.0034' N -78° 16.2219' W on the north shore of the IWW; running southerly near IWW Beacon “51A” to a point 33° 54.9402' N -78° 16.2224' W on the south shore of the IWW; to include the Sea Aire Boat Basin, the canals near Greensboro Street on Holden Beach, the canals near Starfish Drive on Holden Beach, and the canals near Swordfish Drive on Holden Beach.

LOCKWOODS FOLLY RIVER AREA (A-3) –Map 48

a) Lockwoods Folly River – All those waters in Lockwoods Folly River upstream of a line beginning at a point 33° 55.9384’ N - 78°13.1111’ W on the west shore; running southeasterly to a point 33° 55.9045’ N - 78° 13.0843’ W; running easterly near Channel Marker #5 to a point 33° 56.0527’ N - 78° 12.4822’ W; running easterly to a point 33° 56.0606’ N -78° 12.4035’ W on the east shore.

d) All those waters south of Genoes Point on the west shore of The Lockwoods Folly River within the boundaries beginning at a point 33° 55.9384’ N - 78°13.1111’ W at the shoreline; running southeasterly to a point 33° 55.9045’ N - 78° 13.0843’ W; running southwesterly to a point 33° 55.7356’ N - 78° 13.2544’ W; running northwesterly to a point 33° 55.7954’ N - 78° 13.3096’ W at the shoreline.

e) All those waters along the canal on the east shore of the Lockwoods Folly River within the boundaries beginning at a point 33°56.0606’N - 78° 12.4035’ W at the shoreline; running westerly to a point 33° 56.0527’ N - 78° 12.4822’ W; running southwesterly to a point 33° 55.4483’ N - 78° 12.6858’ W at the shoreline.
