PROCLAMATION

RE: SHELLFISH POLLUTED AREA


Stephen W. Murphey, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, upon the recommendation of Betsey Tilson, M.D., M.P.H., State Health Director, Department of Health and Human Services, hereby announces that the following changes in shellfish harvesting areas will take effect at sunrise, Saturday, October 6, 2018.

All those waters in Onslow, Carteret, and Craven Counties will return to the status in existence immediately prior to the September 13, 2018 temporary closures except the following which will remain closed.

ONSLOW / CARTERET COUNTIES

All those waters bordered on the northeast by IWW Beacon “65A” (34° 32.7006’ N - 77° 19.0487’ W); and bordered on the southwest by the South Carolina State Line, to include all of Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties, Stump Sound, Alligator Bay, Chadwick Bay, and New River.

All those waters bordered on the northeast by a line beginning at a point 34° 43.2724’ N - 76° 34.5238’ W on the mainland at the Harkers Island Bridge at The Straits, running southerly following Harkers Island Road and the bridges to a point 34° 42.8644’ N - 76° 34.7019’ W on Harkers Island; thence running southerly following the western shore of Harkers Island to a point at the southwestern tip of Harkers Island at 34° 42.0981' N - 76° 35.0718' W; thence running southerly through Bottle Run Point to a point on Shackleford Banks at 34° 40.1094' N - 76° 35.1799' W; and bordered on the southwest by a line beginning at a point 34° 35.8443’ N - 77° 14.6547’ W on the mainland, running southeasterly near IWW Marker “63” to a point 34° 35.7566’ N - 77° 14.5234’ W on Hurst Beach; thence running southeasterly following the southwestern shore of the channel to the northern tip of Hurst Beach at Browns Inlet, to include Bear Creek, Queens Creek, White Oak River, Bogue Sound, Newport River, North River, and a portion of Back Sound.

The following also remains closed:

BRUNSWICK / NEW HANOVER / PENDER / PAMLICO / BEAUFORT / HYDE / DARE COUNTIES

All those waters bordered on the northeast by IWW Beacon “65A” (34° 32.7006’ N - 77° 19.0487’ W); and bordered on the southwest by the South Carolina State Line, to include all of Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties, Stump Sound, Alligator Bay, Chadwick Bay, and New River

All those waters bordered on the east by a line beginning at Willow Point near Spencer Bay, running southerly to Pamlico Point; thence running southerly to Little Porpoise Point; thence running southerly to Big Porpoise Point; thence running southerly to Sow Island Point; thence running southwesterly to Bay Point; thence running southerly to Maw Point; thence running southeasterly to Fl. Beacon “NR”; thence running southwesterly to a point 34° 58.3128' N - 76° 43.7327' W in the Neuse River, thence running northwesterly to a point 34° 59.5689' N - 76° 45.3295' W on the shoreline near Dawson Creek, to include a portion of Neuse River, Bay River, Jones Bay, Middle Bay, Big Porpoise Bay, Mouse Harbor, Oyster Creek, Goose Creek, Pamlico River, and Pungo River.

All those waters in Croatan Sound and Stumpy Point Bay north of a line beginning at a point 35° 49.1512' N -75° 37.5280' W on the southern tip of Roanoke Island, running southwesterly to a point 35° 37.5368' N -75° 44.1327' W near Sandy Point.
