RE: NON-SANDBAR LARGE COASTAL SHARKS-COMMERCIAL FISHING OPERATIONS- ATLANTIC OCEAN
Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 12:01 A.M., Friday, July 15, 2011 the following will apply to the harvest of sharks for commercial purposes in the Atlantic Ocean waters of North Carolina:
I. SEASON OPENING
It is unlawful to possess, sell or offer for sale more than thirty three (33) Non-Sandbar Large Coastal sharks per trip taken with commercial fishing equipment or for commercial purposes in the Atlantic Ocean.
II. GENERAL INFORMATION
A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103 and 3M.0512.
B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3H .0103.
C. Large Coastal sharks include the following species: silky, tiger, blacktip, spinner, bull, lemon, nurse, scalloped hammerhead, great hammerhead and smooth hammerhead sharks.
D. This proclamation supersedes Proclamation FF-85-2010, dated December 2, 2010, which closed the season. The provisions applicable to Large Coastal Sharks found in Proclamation FF-20-2011, dated January 28, 2011, apply.
