Cultch Planting Meetings Postponed, Additional Meeting Set
MOREHEAD CITY — The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries has rescheduled two public meetings that were set for this week in Wilmington and North Topsail Beach due to the forecast for a winter storm.
The meetings were set to receive suggestions and comments from the public on potential cultch planting sites, and materials and methods used.
The division has also scheduled an additional meeting on this subject in Varnamtown.
The meetings previously scheduled for Tuesday in Wilmington and Wednesday in North Topsail Beach were rescheduled to:
6 p.m. Feb. 24
N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources
Wilmington Regional Office
127 Cardinal Dr., Wilmington
6 p.m. Feb. 25
North Topsail Town Hall
2008 Loggerhead Court, North Topsail Beach
The Varnamtown meeting is set for:
6 p.m. Feb. 17
Varnamtown Town Hall
100 Varnamtown Road SW, Supply
Cultch planting is where shells and rock are strategically placed to enhance shellfish habitat in potentially productive shellfish areas. Oysters, clams and other aquatic life are attracted to the cultch and begin to immediately colonize on the material.
