Reminder! Question and Answer Webinars For Proposed
Management Measures Begin Tonight

Public Hearing/Scoping Meetings start next week

Wednesday, January 20 at 6:00 p.m.

  • For-Hire Reporting Amendment:
The amendment would require mandatory electronic reporting for federally permitted charter vessels (6-pack) and modify existing reporting requirements for headboats to help improve data
  • Mackerel Amendment 26:
Measures for Gulf of Mexico and South Atlantic King Mackerel include: boundary modifications; revising annual catch limits; incidental catch allowance for the shark gill net fishery, split seasons; and other measures.

Thursday, January 21 at 6:00 p.m.

  • Snapper Grouper Amendment 37:
Modifications to hogfish management include: designating two stocks in the South Atlantic, measures to rebuild the "Florida Keys/East Florida" stock (increase minimum size limit, establish a commercial trip limit, reduce bag limit and establish a recreational season).
  • Snapper Grouper Amendment 41 (Scoping):
The Council is considering options for management of mutton snapper following a recent stock assessment. Options include modifying the current recreational bag limit of 10 fish per person/day, and reductions in the bag limit during the mutton snapper spawning season. Note that FWC is also soliciting input during selected hearings (see below).

Join Council staff as they review actions proposed in each amendment and address your questions. Registration for the webinars is required. Information is available from the Public Hearing and Scoping Meeting page of the Council's website at www.safmc.net.

Summary documents for each amendment are also available from the website. Note: Formal public comment will not be accepted during the Q&A webinars.

Public Hearings/Scoping Meetings

The Council is holding a series of public hearings and scoping meetings addressing the proposed management measures. Note: The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is also holding a series of public workshops to gather public input on the management of mutton snapper in state waters. These workshops will be held in conjunction with selected public hearing/scoping meetings as noted below.
