Crushed stone (aggregate)

Secondary crusher and conveyor

Rock leaves primary crusher by conveyor to secondary cone crusher (just above shadow break). Rip rap, used for erosion control, is separated from crushed stone entering the secondary crusher and is stockpiled for shipment (see below)

Rock leaving the primary crushed  typically is 8 inches in diameter or less. This crushed rock is moved to the secondary crusher by a conveyor belt (see left). The secondary crusher is located at the large horizontal conveyor belt which separates 'rip rap.'

At the secondary crusher the crushed stone passes over a 'screen'. Stone greater than  8  inches in diameter are separated for 'rip rap.' The horizontal conveyor carries the rip rap to a stock pile (see below) where it is ready for shipping.  Rip rap is used for soil erosion control.

The crushed stone that passes through the 8 inch screen is crushed to smaller size in the secondary crusher known as a 'cone crusher.' The cone crusher reduces the size of the crushed rock to a mixture of crushed rock sizes that are used to construct roads, offices buildings and homes, and for rail road track beds. This crushed stone is transported to the sizing plant that at this mine is located on the surface. The sizing plant separates the different sizes of crushed stone.

The secondary crusher ('cone crusher') further reduces the size of the crushed stone to that used in road and building construction. A conveyor transports the crushed stone from the secondary crusher to a sizing plant.
