County and State Boundary Program

Purpose:

The North Carolina Geodetc Survey (NCGS) via its State and County Boundary Program is legislated by the State of North Carolina to resurvey ambiguous sections of the state's borders and county boundaries in order to:

  • Prevent boundary-related legal disputes between bordering entities
  • Facilitate real estate property assessments, E-911 services, building inspections, and school assignments

 

Status:

North Carolina - Virginia (NC-VA)

  • Complete survey location of existing monuments 1 - 28 along the Currituck, Camden, and Gates county line sections
  • Several monuments located along the Warren, Vance, and Granville county line sections
 Monument 1, which was set in 1887, on the NC-VA line between Currituck County and Virginia Beach City.

North Carolina - South Carolina (NC-SC)

  • Survey completed along the Henderson, Transylvania, and Jackson county line sections
  • Survey completed along a part of the Polk County line section
  • Some information along the Brunswick, Columbus, Robeson, Scotland, and Richmond county line sections
  • Currently working along the Gaston, Cleveland, Rutherford, and Polk county line sections
   The corner monument, which was set in 1905, on the NC-SC line between Scotland County and Richmond County.

North Carolina - Georgia (NC-GA)

  • Mapping grade coordinates on several monuments along this line
 Commissioners' line stone, which was set in 1819, on the NC-GA line. 

North Carolina - Tennessee (NC-TN)

  • Research survey information along this line
 This post marks the NC-TN-GA corner.
