OverviewThe DENR Enterprise Web Portal (the Portal) is used to host and deliver websites for all divisions of DENR. This includes both publicly-accessible sites, as well as employee-focused intranet sites. Each website implemented on the Portal has a set of public pages, and a set of intranet pages. Websites can be created for each DENR division, business unit, program, or cross-divisional working group. Public sites can be implemented that include information and applications intended for the citizens of North Carolina, business partners involved in DENR programs, and other municipal, state, and federal government employees who are working with DENR.
Cost Savings and SustainabilityThis solution results in a considerable cost savings for DENR by consolidating all website hosting, development, and delivery requirements for the entire agency. It also represents a sustainable IT practice, by reducing the power, cooling, and space requirements for the entire agency's web serving capabilities.
Application SoftwareThe application software product deployed as the DENR Enterprise Web Portal is Liferay Portal, the leading open-source enterprise web portal solution. Liferay has been named as a leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Horizontal Portals, along with Microsoft, IBM, Oracle, and SAP. Liferay has been deployed in Fortune 500 companies, has 250,000 worldwide deployments, and is used by clients such as Cisco, T-Mobile, Honda, OnStar, AutoZone, JetBlue, Lufthansa, Liz Claiborne, Benetton, Electronic Arts, FCC.gov, Australia.gov.au, LA Lakers, NBA, MapQuest, Harvard, Penn State, and many others.
