Overview: The N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources in April 2011 convened a Science Advisory Panel composed of professionals with pertinent expertise in aquatic-resource restoration practices. The panel will advise NCDENR and its specific agencies, as well as the state/federal Interagency Review Team.

The panel is advisory in nature and is not intended to establish policy as it relates to the development of compensatory-mitigation projects for state and federal clean-water permits.

Purpose:

  • Ensure that pertinent results of recent scientific studies are considered in the selection and implementation of restoration projects.
  • Support the development and execution of research projects that further best practices for conservation and restoration projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and input on issues related to aquatic-resources restoration and management (i.e., watershed planning and project selection; project implementation; and data management and analysis).
