Candiff Creek stream restoration
Surry County

Candiff Creek is a direct tributary to the Upper Yadkin River, a high-priority aquatic habitat in the north Inner Piedmont ecoregion of the state.  The project restored approximately 4,100 linear feet, enhanced about 1,800 linear feet and preserved about 1,200 linear feet of the creek.

The project is located within a priority subwatershed identified during EEP’s Ararat-Pilot Mountain Local Watershed Plan initiative, during which potential project sites were identified based upon aerial photography and other GIS datasets.  The Surry County Soil & Water Conservation District oversaw the design and construction of the project, and will continue to monitor the project for EEP until 2017.

Completion date:  December 2011

Stream Wetland and Buffer Restoration:

EEP projects restore, enhance and preserve wetlands and waterways across the state. Goals include improving water quality, enhancing wildlife habitat, filtering pollutants, slowing floodwaters and reducing sedimentation and erosion.

The N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program's mission is to restore and protect North Carolina’s natural resources for future generations while supporting responsible economic development.

EEP utilizes receipts from its programs to restore streams and wetlands where the need is greatest by working with state and local partners, including willing landowners. The N.C. Department of Transportation and other developers voluntarily use EEP to move projects forward in a timely and affordable manner.
