EEP & CTNC: A Partnership For Preservation

The N.C. Ecosystem Enhancement Program has helped to check the loss of natural areas in partnership with public and private organizations across the state.

These partnerships have made a difference. A special relationship between EEP and the Conservation Trust for North Carolina forged in October 2003 capitalized on the expertise of 23 local and regional land trusts from the mountains to the coast.

The objective was to provide fair economic return to landowners while achieving open-space protection for the state. In so doing, EEP used existing funding allocated to the state Department of Transportation for offsetting the unavoidable impacts of transportation-infrastructure improvements.
