Recycling Options for HouseholdsNorth Carolina residents are strongly encouraged to recycle spent fluorescent lights from their home. Recycling options vary across the state. Provided below are options compiled to help residents find the option that is most convenient for them. Drop Off LocationsVarious retailers and electric cooperatives across North Carolina offer free recycling of compact fluorescent lights (CFL) to their customers. We recommend you always call ahead or ask your local retailer if they offer recycling options. Mailback ProgramsMail-back programs generally include a primary waste collection container, an outer shipping container, a prepaid shipping label and instructions. For North Carolinians living in remote or isolated areas, this may be your only recycling option. This is not the most cost-effective method for residents to use to recycle CFLs; however, you can choose from several mail-back programs.
