The N.C. Self-Help

Self-Help, North Carolina’s community development banking group, has provided loans to recycling businesses since 1988. Through its Environmental Lending Initiative, Self-Help nurtures fledgling businesses until they become bankable and graduate to full-service private sector financing. Natural Capital Investment Fund

NCIF is a business loan fund that targets recycling companies, particularly those focused on the sustainable use of natural resources.  NCIF makes loans in the $25,000 to $500,000 range. Polymers Center of Excellence

The Polymers Center of Excellence is a Charlotte-based not-for-profit dedicated to supporting the plastics industry and extending services to plastic recyclers around the state.  PCE provides training, material testing, and technical support to the plastics industry through its state-of-the-art molding, extrusion and testing equipment.  Contact Dennis Hayford at 704-602-4101 or .

SJF Ventures

SJF Ventures is a venture capital fund that finances and assists rapidly-growing companies with more than $1 million in sales. SJF specializes in supporting entrepreneurial teams whose competitive advantage includes environmental or workforce innovation. Small Business and Technology Development Center 

Small Business and Technology Development Center’s mission is to support the growth and development of North Carolina’s economy by encouraging entrepreneurship, assisting in the creation and expansion of small businesses and facilitating technology development and transfer for small businesses. Scholarships for SBTDC’s NxLeveL Entrepreneurial Training Program and SymmeTree Change Management Course are sometimes offered to recycling businesses. Waste Reduction Partners

Waste Reduction Partners, a team of highly experienced staff and volunteer retired engineers, architects and scientists, provides North Carolina businesses and industries with waste and energy reduction assessments and technical assistance. WPR provides services throughout the state through its western and piedmont offices. WRP is administered by the Land-of-Sky Regional Council and works in special partnership with the N.C. Carolina Recycling Association

Founded in 1988, the Carolina Recycling Association promotes resource conservation by advancing waste reduction and recycling efforts across North and South Carolina. Contact CRA at 877-972-0007 or .

N.C. Department of Transportation Resource Conservation Program Task Force

This task force encourages the development of the state's recycling industry by promoting the successful development of markets for recycled goods.  Part of the mission of the task force is to provide leadership and expertise in the selection and recommended use of recycled materials to reduce waste and preserve natural resources.
