Zero Waste to Landfill

Photo of garbage truck at a Raleigh Landfill, courtesy of City of RaleighMany manufacturers and other organizations in North Carolina are working on waste reduction efforts to help their financial and environmental bottom line. The leaders in these efforts have achieved the impressive status of sending zero waste to landfills, rising to the challenge of returning valuable resources back into the economy, reducing their regulatory liability, and increasing their resilience against outside factors. This page is designed to provide technical information, examples, and resources to encourage this trend.

What are the benefits of Zero Waste to Landfill?

ZWTL has many benefits including saving money through the reduction of waste; faster progress to cleaner production, more innovative steps; improved material flows because all materials should either return as reusable or recycled materials or would be suitable for use as compost or energy recovery; and ultimately supports sustainability by ensuring economic well being, environmental protection, and social well being.
