Conservation Incentives Program
The Conservation Incentives Program is made up of the Conservation Grant Fund, the Conservation Tax Credit Program, and the Conservation Easement Program (as defined by G.S. 113A-230-239).
The goal of the Conservation Incentives Program is to facilitate and offer assistance to promote meaningful conservation that:
- improves quality of life for North Carolina’s citizens,
- maintains critical ecosystem functions and services, and
- makes efficient and effective use of economic resources.
The most active part of the Conservation Incentives Program has been the Conservation Tax Credit program. Legislative changes in 2007 prompted a comprehensive review of the Conservation Tax Credit program. After the review is complete, efforts will continue to expand other aspects of the overall Conservation Incentives Program.
The Conservation Incentives Program centers on land protection and conservation of ecosystem functions and services. There is much conservation work to do, and limited resources to do this work. The Conservation Incentives Program can be utilized in many ways, from helping state, local and non-profit partners protect important places, to stewardship of conservation land.
