GIS Data Download

Datasets Ready for Download from NC One Map
The Conservation Planning Tool statewide datasets are available for download. Use of these data require Geographic Information System (GIS) software and expertise, and the datasets must be downloaded and saved to your computer.
- Unless otherwise specified, all data are in ESRI format.
- The data in raster (GRID) format requires ESRI ArcGIS software with Spatial Analyst extension, or any other GIS software that can read this format, such as GDAL.
- Data in geodatabase format requires ESRI ArcGIS version 9.2 or better.
Biodiversity and Wildlife Habitat Assessment (BWHA)
Both shapefile and raster (GRID) data are available at NC OneMap. At that website, follow these instructions:
- Click on Geospatial portal and enter "biodiversity" in the Search box.
- Click on "Biodiversity and Wildlife Habitat Assessment" on the right side to download the data.
Forestry Lands Assessment
Six individual datasets are available at NC OneMap. At that website, follow these instructions:

Access to Other Available Data Layers
The data layers listed below are currently available via our FTP site. For instructions to access this site, please contact Allison Schwarz Weakley, Conservation Planner, at 919-707-8629 or allison.weakley@ncdenr.gov.
Open Space and Conservation Lands (OSCL)
- This dataset is a collection of GIS layers used to create the January 2013 Open Space and Conservation Lands (OSCL) map in shapefile format. The collection also includes additional layers helpful for planning that are not included on the OSCL map. See Chapter 5 of the Detailed Report for a list of datasets available. The ReadMe file included in the collection provides brief descriptions for each dataset.
Agricultural Lands Assessment
- The data for this assessment are available in ArcGIS File Geodatabase format, and include an Overall Score comprised from three separate evaluations for Soils, Agriculture Infrastructure, and Government Policy.
