Natural Heritage Program - Inventory Unit
The Inventory Unit of the Natural Heritage Program conducts biological surveys to identify the most significant natural areas of our state, with the goal of finding and documenting locations of rare species and high quality natural communities. These observations are used to assess the rarity and habitat needs of North Carolina’s rarest species.
The Natural Heritage Program shares the resulting information with citizens, corporations, agencies, and non-profit organizations engaged in conservation and development. More than 8,000 data requests from corporations, agencies and citizens are answered annually.
