MEDIA ADVISORY: Three southern reserve sites to hold local advisory committee meetings in November

RALEIGH – The public is invited to attend meetings in November of the local advisory committees for the Zeke’s Island and Masonboro Island components of the N. C. National Estuarine Research Reserve and the Bald Head Island Coastal Reserve.

The meeting schedules are:
 

  • The Masonboro Island Local Advisory Committee will meet from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 1 in the Habitat Conference Room of the UNC-Wilmington Center for Marine Science, 5600 Marvin K. Moss Lane, Wilmington.

  • The Zeke’s Island Local Advisory Committee will meet from 10 a.m.-noon Nov. 2 in the meeting room of the Fort Fisher Recreation Area, 118 River Front Drive, Kure Beach.

  • The Bald Head Woods Local Advisory Committee will meet from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Education Room of the Bald Head Island Conservancy, Bald Head Island.

The committees consist of local residents, partners and leaders who provide the N.C. Division of Coastal Management’s Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve staff with guidance and feedback on the management of the reserve sites.

The N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve Program protects natural areas for education, research and compatible recreation. Since its creation in 1989, the program has preserved more than 41,000 acres of unique coastal environments at 10 sites on the coast.
