Coastal Resources Commission :: Actions from September Meeting

At its September 2006 meeting, the CRC:

  • Adopted amendments to 15A NCAC 07K.0208, Single Family Residence Exemptions.
  • Approved the 2005-06 Coastal Habitat Protection Plan annual report.
  • Voted to send to public hearing an increased time frame for development performed under certain CAMA General Permits.
  • On the recommendation of the Planning and Special Issues Subcommittee, the commission voted to certify a Land Use Plan for the Town of Wrightsville Beach.

·  Granted a variance to William Ferriss of Brunswick County, who sought relief from the commission’s setback rule in order to construct a single-family residence in Oak Island. The petitioner’s proposed development does not meet the required setback from a pre-nourishment project vegetation line.

  • Denied a variance to Bobby L. Norton of Brunswick County, who sought relief from the commission’s rules regarding non-water dependent structures over estuarine waters and coastal wetlands in order to replace a family fish camp/shack over the marsh in the Lockwood Folly River near Varnamtown.
  • Granted a variance to B&D Investments, LLC of New Hanover County, who sought relief from the commission’s riparian setback rules in order to construct a pier within the 15-foot setback from an adjacent property owner’s area of riparian access.
  • Denied a variance to Coral Bay Ridge, LLC of Carteret County, who sought relief from the commission’s 30-foot buffer rule in order to construct a single-family residence on a lot in Atlantic Beach.

·  Denied a variance to Margaret Laneave of Brunswick County, who sought relief from the commission’s 30-foot buffer rule in order to construct a single-family residence on a lot in Ocean Isle Beach.

·  Granted a variance to Andy Simmons for Cape Fear Boatworks of Brunswick County, who sought relief from the commission’s specific use standards for estuarine waters in order to dredge an access channel within a designated Primary Nursery Area in the Cape Fear River.
