N.C. Division of Coastal Management Plans Reserve Field Trips for Take a Child Outside Week
BEAUFORT - In celebration of Take A Child Outside Week, the N.C. Division of Coastal Management is offering nature hikes on the Rachel Carson component of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve in Beaufort.
The trips will be offered from 4-5 p.m. Sept. 27-29. Participants will leave from the reserve facility on Pivers Island in Beaufort.
Participants will take a short boat ride to the Rachel Carson Reserve. Once on the island, participants will observe some of the unique estuarine habitats, plants and animals found there. Each trip will be led by the reserve’s education staff. Trips are free. Reservations are required. To reserve a spot or request information, contact Lori Davis, a coastal education specialist with the reserve, at (252) 838-0883 or email@example.com.
Take A Child Outside Week, which is Sept. 24-30, is an international program designed to help break down obstacles that keep children from discovering the natural world. By arming parents, teachers and other caregivers with resources on outdoor activities, the celebration aims to help children develop a better understanding and appreciation of their environment and a burgeoning enthusiasm for its exploration.
