Public field trips to Outer Banks Reserve sites Join our Coastal Reserve Program staff for three public field trips in August at the Outer Banks Coastal Reserve sites. The field trips are free, and a great way for individuals and families to learn more about North Carolina estuaries. Thursday, Aug. 11: Maritime Forest Kayak Trip, Kitty Hawk Woods N.C. Reserve staff will lead a kayak tour through the maritime forest of the Kitty Hawk Woods Reserve. Two tours will be offered, at 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. Each trip will last approximately two hours. Kayak guides and boats will be provided by the Coastal Kayak Touring Company. Please note, children must weigh more than 30 pounds and be accompanied by an adult. All gear will be provided and two-person kayaks will be available for children to ride with adults. This trip will take place in the Kitty Hawk area. Nature Walk through Currituck Banks Join the N.C. Reserve staff for a late afternoon walk (4:30-5:30 p.m.) along the Currituck Banks boardwalk to learn about the N.C. Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve system and N.C. estuaries. This trip leaves from Corolla, N.C. Friday, Aug. 12: Estuary Exploration Explore the plants and animals of Kitty Hawk Bay with the N.C.
