Contact: Michele Walker, 919-733-2293, ext. 229 State officials to host coastal workshops on reptiles and amphibians KITTY HAWK – Officials with the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission and N.C. Division of Coastal Management will host two upcoming workshops in Kitty Hawk about the reptiles and amphibians of the Outer Banks. The first workshop will be from 6-9 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Kitty Hawk Town Hall, 101 Veteran’s Memorial Road. Biologists will present different species common to the region and participants will learn about these species through hands-on activities. For the second workshop, participants will meet at 9 a.m. Oct. 6 at the N.C. Coastal Reserve Northern Sites Office, 983 West Kitty Hawk Road. From there, participants will join biologists in the field checking traps and coverboards for reptiles and amphibians. The second workshop will conclude at 3:30 p.m. Both workshops will be geared toward people at least 14 years old. The workshops cover basic biology, habitat requirements and identification. Participants may take either workshop or sign up for both. The workshops are free, but registration is required.
