DCM staff and volunteers spent their Earth Day cleaning up the Rachel Carson National Estuarine Research Reserve in Beaufort. Several hundred pounds of trash were collected and removed from the reserve, including plastics, old nets, foam, glass bottles, cans and tires. Some unusual items found were an old wetsuit, radio speakers, a kayak paddle, and a (homemade) porta-potty. The photo at left shows the Rachel Carson boat filled with the results of the clean-up.
Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers who made this event such a success!
