Coastal Resources Commission To Meet March 23 & 24 in Kill Devil Hills

RALEIGH — The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet Thursday and Friday, March 23 and 24, in Kill Devil Hills at the Ramada Inn, 1701 S. Virginia Dare Trail. The meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday, is open to the public.

The following items are on the CRC’s agenda:

  • Static Vegetation Line (I&S Committee, 1:30 p.m. Thursday) – Coastal Management staff will discuss issues related to vegetation lines and oceanfront setbacks in areas that have received large-scale beach fill projects.
  • Structure Repair vs. Replacement Rule (I&S Committee, 1:30 p.m. Thursday) – Coastal Management staff will continue discussion of the CRC’s 50 percent rule in regards to structure repair vs. replacement.
  • Variance Requests (9 a.m. Thursday) – The commission will hear requests for variances from the state's coastal management rules.
  • Public Comment Period for Proposed General Permit Changes (5 p.m. Thursday) – The public may comment on proposed changes to CAMA General Permit fees and approval procedures.

The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that provides the CRC with local government perspectives and technical advice, will meet at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 23 at the Ramada Inn. On Wednesday, March 22 at 2:30 p.m., CRC and CRAC members will participate in a field trip to observe some current issues facing DCM field staff and the intricacies involved in the application of the Commission’s rules and policies.
