Coastal Resources Commission To Meet Nov. 29 & 30 in Greenville
RALEIGH — The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet Thursday and Friday, Nov. 29 and 30, at the City Hotel and Bistro in Greenville. The meeting, which begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and 8 a.m. Friday, is open to the public.
The following items are on the CRC’s agenda:
Beach and Inlet Management Plan Update(11:30 a.m. Thursday) – Coastal Management staff will update the commission on the progress of DENR’s Beach and Inlet Management Plan.
Sand Ownership/Rights of Access (Implementation & Standards Committee, 1:30 p.m. Thursday) – Coastal Management staff will discuss how state and federal governments manage submerged lands resources, with regard to sand ownership and coastal municipalities’ ability to remove sand for beach nourishment projects.
Land Use Plan Certifications(Planning & Special Issues Committee, 1:30 p.m. Thursday)– Commissioners will consider certification of CAMA Land Use Plans for Brunswick County; the Towns of Carolina Beach, Southport, Indian Beach and Kure Beach; and the City of Washington.
Sea Level Rise and CRC Legal Authorities(9:15 a.m. Friday) – Coastal Management staff will examine the CRC’s federal and state authority to manage North Carolina’s coast for the unique challenges of sea level rise.
CAMA and Takings Issues(9:15 a.m. Friday) – Dave Owens, Professor of Public Law and Government, UNC School of Government, will discuss property takings issues related to CRC rules and CAMA.
Variance Requests and Contested Case Hearings(9 a.m. Thursday) – The commission will hear requests for variances from the state’s coastal management rules, and will hear two contested cases.

The Coastal Resources Advisory Council, a group that provides the CRC with local government perspectives and technical advice, will meet at 3 p.m. Nov. 29, and at 10 a.m. Nov. 30 at the City Hotel.
