N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will meet May 5 in Beaufort
RALEIGH – A draft update of oceanfront erosion rates, sandbags and sea level rise are on the agenda for the May 5 N.C. Coastal Resources Commission meeting.
The commission will meet from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the NOAA/NCNERR Administration Building, 101 Pivers Island Road, in Beaufort. The meeting is open to the public.
The following are some of the main items on the CRC’s agenda:
2011 Draft Erosion Rates– Staff with the N.C. Division of Coastal Management, or DCM, will present the first draft of 2011 updates of oceanfront erosion rates.
Sandbag Stakeholders Meeting Summary/Sandbag Enforcement Update – DCM staff will review comments and suggestions from four sandbag stakeholder meetings and provide an update on current efforts to enforce removal of sandbags that are past their permitted timeframe.
Sea Level Rise – DCM staff will update the development of the commission’s sea level rise policy and give an update on sea level rise education and outreach efforts.
Sediment Criteria Amendments – DCM staff will present suggested amendments to the CRC’s rules regarding sediment criteria for beach nourishment projects.
Beach and Inlet Management Plan – DCM staff will discuss potential implementation strategies for the state’s Beach and Inlet Management Plan.
Marsh Sill Study Results – DCM staff will present findings from a recent study of marsh sills on estuarine shorelines.
Land Use Plan Amendment – The N.C. Coastal Resources Commission will consider a land use plan amendment for Shallotte.
