PLANNING SECTION
The Planning Section of the Division of Air Quality carries out a number of important roles for the division. Planning performs computer modeling and analyses to determine how to attain air quality standards. Works with the legislature and Environmental Management Commission to develop rules, regulations and programs for meeting air quality standards. Coordinates the N.C. Air Awareness Program, which educates and informs the public about air pollution, its causes and effects, and ways to prevent it. The section is comprised of three branches; 1) Attainment Planning, 2) Rules Development, and 3) Allied Programs.
PERMITS SECTION
Permits Section handles the inssuance, renewal and modification of air quality permits in North Carlina. Currently, about 2,650 facilities hold air quality permits in the state.
