APNEP Citizens' Advisory Committee Home PageThe Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) provides community involvement, participation, and support to the Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program on measures to restore and protect the natural resources of the Albemarle-Pamlico region. Since its inception in 2006, the CAC has provided advice and support to the APNEP program office, the Policy Board, N.C. DENR and its partners on implementation of the APNEP Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan (CCMP). The CAC also acts as a forum for the exchange of information on issues relevant to the APNEP watershed.
HistoryAPNEP's Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) was established in January 2006. The CAC, along with the Science and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) and Management Advisory Committee (MAC), are the three advisory bodies sanctioned in Governor's Executive Order #74 in May 2005 (replaced in August 2007 by North Carolina Governor's Executive Order #122) to support the APNEP Policy Board. Prior to 2005, APNEP was supported by five River Basin Advisory Councils, and members of these councils helped form the initial APNEP advisory committees and policy board. As an APNEP advisory committee, two representatives from the CAC serve on the Policy Board, and CAC representatives consult with members of the STAC and MAC. In addition, several APNEP CAC members also serve on the steering committee for the Albemarle-Pamlico Conservation & Communities Collaborative (AP3C), an active group in the Albemarle-Pamlico region.
