Recreational Water Quality Monitoring

Responding to a temporary budget shortfall, APNEP has partnered with the N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries to support North Carolina’s Recreational Water Quality Program in 2014. Ocean beaches, sounds, bays, and estuarine rivers are all monitored to ensure conditions are safe for swimming or other contact.

In addition to promoting public safety, support from APNEP ensures continuity of the program’s monitoring information. This information has been collected since 1997 and is a key indicator of estuarine health in the region.
