Take a look at the mariculture methods Jay Styron is using to grow oysters near Cedar Island, NC. Raising the oysters in cages that float on the water helps them grow to market size faster than oysters on the bottom. This method also avoids harvesting important shell bottom habitat which filters water and provides structure, shelter and forage area for many marine species.
